Dispersion Photoshop Action

This action will break apart pieces of your photo and shoot them into a direction of your choice. Do not spend lots of time trying to create this effect manually, get it done in seconds with only a few clicks.

You simply brush in the areas that you want to disperse and play the action! You can choose from Up, Down, Left or Right directions to shoot the broken pieces off into. Creating such an advanced effect has never been this simple and fun.

TIP: Create lots more parts by duplicating layers! Simply select a layer and hit ‘Ctrl+j’ to quickly duplicate it. You can even duplicate the entire ‘Parts’ folder by selecting the folder and hitting ‘Ctrl+j’. You can then move the entire folder around. You can also scale the parts by selecting a layer and hitting ‘Ctrl+t’ – then use the bounding box handles to scale it up or down!

The action has been tested and working on Photoshop (English versions) CS3,CS4,CS5,CS6,CC,CC 2015.5+. The action will only work on the English versions of Photoshop. If you are using another language, you can follow this technique to change from your native language to English. You can then change it back after you have finished running the action.

This page covers Sevenstyles Action update announcements, FAQ, general knowledge about Sevenstyles Actions and ways you could make money with them.

Tested

Each Action is thoroughly tested across between 50 – 150 different photos to ensure there are no errors. In the case where you do experience an error, please firstly visit the help page and then contact me via email if you are still having troubles. My email address can be found on the help page.

The Best Results

For the best results, it is recommended to use high resolution photos in the range of 1500px – 3500px. The optimal range is from 2500px – 3500px. The detail and clarity in the effects generated by the actions reduce the smaller your photo is.

Organised

After each action has finished playing, it creates a well organised layer structure. Each layer and folder are named appropriately and color coded to create a neat working environment for you. Not only is the layer structure organised, each action comes with a highly detailed video tutorial teaching you about how each layer affects the design and how you can make customisations to it. Here is my YouTube channel.

Created something awesome with SevenStyles Actions? Share your designs on the SevenStyles Facebook page and inspire others to apply the effects in ways they may not have thought of.

Combine actions

If you own multiple actions, have you thought about stacking the effects to build even more advanced designs? Below there are over 95 actions to choose from – this is where you can get really creative!

How do I combine actions?

  1. Run the first action on your photo.
  2. Once you are happy with the design, save your image out.
  3. Now re-open your image and run another action!
You can then use the 2nd actions layer flexibility to further customize the design. You can follow this process and stack effects to build incredibly detailed designs with very little work.

After it creates a layer named "30", i get "The object "layer "1 copy"" is not currently available". My image is a flattened 8bit RGB PNG file, default background layer, second layer named "brush", using the UP action.

Nevermind, I had to have "Add "copy" to Copied Layers and Groups" checked in Layer Panel Options.

Hey - There is a checkbox next to the action in the actions panel which you have checked which shouldn't be. Send me an email and I will show you where to find that. If it is checked, every step in the action will pop up asking you to confirm the settings before continuing - which you definitely dont want! My email address is on the support page here. Thanks

Hi, I'm currently trying to run the Dispersion2 Action. However, I had to keep clicking: OK, for it to continue, which is very time consuming. I scrolled through the comments and found other users were having the same problems. I unchecked the grey box next to the action name, but then when I try to run the action it won't start. Thanks, Sherri

Hey Sherri! I think you have unchecked the wrong thing - you may be unchecking the tick next to the action, which will completely disable it. Please refer to the image below: Thanks

Love this action only issue is it is only partially erasing from face when I am on mask and erasing with black brush. I can see some parts erasing but not the entire face like I need it. I am using PS CC.

Hey! I am not sure why that is happening, is your brush opacity at 100%? also you can group the layer (Ctrl + G), then add a mask to that group and brush onto the group mask. You can also try deleting the current layer mask and applying a new layer mask. Email me if you are still stuck, my address is on the help page here. Thnaks

Hi, Love your work. I'm struggling to get my images to look anything like the ones you have as examples, I've followed your tutorial and when I do the exact same thing, I get tiny pieces for the effect, more like the Sandstorm add-on. I have tried messing with the resolution settings but I'm really not seeing much of a difference. I want to know how to get an image like the Parrot you have up, big chunky pieces breaking away. Please advise. Thanks.

Hey - Could you send me your Photoshop file that you are running the Action on? I just need your photo and 'brush' layer created in the file you send. I will see if I get a similar result. If you are getting tiny pieces, you can try scale down the size of your photo. My example images are all in the range of 1500 - 3000px. My email address is on the help page here. Thanks

Hi Nikki - firstly thanks for the great support! No they will all work, 99% of cases of the actions not working are due to very small things that the user is doing that will affect the action running smoothly. Would you mind sending me a screenshot of the very first error that pops up with the layer panel in view? I will be able to tell you whats happening from here. Thanks again!
